A House Divided

Here is today's communion meditation.

The other day my kids were watching a movie and the hero was in an impossible looking situation with several bad guys. And the hero came up with a plan to "Divide the House," by getting the bad guys to work against each other. 

In Matthew 12 Jesus is accused of driving demons out of man because he himself has demons. But Jesus responds with “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?"

I think this verse has some very practical applications for us. Notice that Jesus gives several layers in this passage...house, city, nation. 

Our bodies are now God's house and the first house to get unified is ourselves. There can be times when we are divided within ourselves. These would be times when we are wavering back and forth and possibly indecisive. Maybe we are trying to walk by faith but we have a lot of doubts and unbelief that are pulling us in the other direction. First, we must get unified within ourselves and with God within us. Then this unity must flow out into our family. A husband and wife that are unified is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and often when they get unified the kids very easily join in. Then this must flow out into our city and nation. 

God works from the inside out first we must unify ourselves, then our families, then our city, then our nation. 

Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God chose to be unified with us and that he wants to unify heaven and earth(Ephesians 1). And we are asking for his help to get unified with him, within ourselves, within our families, cities, and nations.
