Jesus said that his house would be a house of prayer for all nations. The other day I read this promise in Isaiah and it kept coming back to mind as we were working in our backyard to level out an area. I was reminded of what we teach in the Abundant Life Blueprint about building a house.
To build a house the lot first needs to be cleared and leveled. Clearing and leveling a lot is a lot of work but thankfully Jesus did the hard work and we have been given his righteousness. Then a house needs a foundation, and the foundation for our lives is meant to be God's word. One of the most powerful ways to pray is by praying God's word and his promises regularly.
But, as we find what God has said there is often a gap between what he has promised us and what we are experiencing. For several years now I have used a very simple prayer that has really transformed my emotions and I feel God was showing me recently that this same type of prayer can be used for anything where there seems to be a gap between what he has promised and what we are experiencing.
Here is the prayer I have used for my emotions whenever I respond emotionally in a way that is not full of faith and love.
Step 1 is always forgiveness. And remember that forgiveness must flow through 3 levels. We must receive it from God, forgive ourselves, and walk in forgiveness with others.
Step 2 is a simple prayer acknowledging that what God put in us is more than enough for every situation.
Step 3 is to ask for his help growing, cultivating, or stepping into what he put in us and what he promised us.
For example, lets say you are struggling financially. Receive forgiveness from God for any doubt you have had about this area, forgive yourself and let it go, aim for peace in all relationships. Then find what God has promised you in the area of finances. For example, he has promised to supply all of your needs according to his riches in glory, that he cares more for you than the sparrows, and that his blessing makes rich without adding painful toil. Then ask for his help stepping into and walking in these promises. Then trust that from the moment you pray is is guiding you. It is simply a matter of time to fully step into what he has said.
That is it. A very simple process but I believe it will make a big difference and hopefully lead to becoming a house of prayer for all nations.
