Something I have learned about time is that it's relative. The way we experience time can change and it can feel like it's moving either faster or slower. On God's Yearly Cycle the Spring is the time of year when time accelerates. You may have been experiencing this lately where it seems like the days are going by faster. And it is going to continue to accelerate until we get to the day of Pentecost (June 4th). When we get past Pentecost time begins to slow down again. As the pressure increases during the heat of the summer time will feel like it is slowing down in late August and September.
The accelerated time we are in right now is a good thing, because it's a reminder that God is trying to accelerate us into his plans and purposes for our life. But, if it feels like time is going too fast one of the best ways to slow it down is by setting deadlines. We can set mini-deadlines during the day of working on a project for certain period of time or a deadline for the month, etc. Whenever deadlines are set it increases pressure and slows time down, especially as the deadline approaches. More gets done in compressed time.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude for the gift of time and that God has given us control to be able to speed up and slow down time. He created everything to teach us about Jesus, so we are asking for his help to understand accelerated time and to use it in the way he designed.
Today's Workout/Health Tip
One of the ways we can start applying the principles of accelerated time and deadlines is in our health and fitness. Yesterday, we talked about wrestlers, and I was thinking about if I were to wrestle it would have to be in the 184lbs or 197lbs weight class because I am right in between. However, if I were to wrestle at 197lbs my opponents would be much bigger than me because they would probably be cutting down from a much heavier weight. So I made a decision that over the next 8 weeks I am going to cut down to 184lbs. I set a deadline with an exact goal or target and a target date. What goal could you set, that's realistic, and give an exact time deadline for reaching that goal. Faith starts with a firm decision, so let's set the target and commit to it.
What am I going to do to cut down 8-10 pounds over the next 8 weeks. Nothing fancy. I will do the same workout plan and eat balanced meals. But I will look for little ways to increase my activity(walking more, playing more games with my kids, etc) and tighten up my nutrition slightly by keeping a closer eye on my portions and cutting out any extras because it's usually the little things that make the biggest difference in weight loss. The other big thing is SLEEP. It's hard to get leaner without sleeping well.
I am praying for you.
Daniel
