Always

Last night I was telling my kids about a friend of mine who is a very high level drummer. He has been asked to play the drums at concerts by some famous musicians. He once told me that the times he feels most connected to God are when he is worshipping God by playing the drums. He said it is like his whole spirit, mind, emotions, and physical body are united as one in worshipping God. Communion gives us a similar opportunity. We can take the spiritual principles of what Jesus has done, stir them into our minds and imagination, and combine it with something physical that we actually do. Communion has the power to unite our entire spirit, soul, and body. 

My friend also told me that when he was learning to play drums he had a teacher who constantly made him practice the fundamentals. My friend wanted to move on faster to fancier things but his teacher insisted he continue to practice the fundamentals. My friend said that looking back now it was the best thing he could have done, but he didn't like it at the time. Then my daughter said, "Yes, but the fundamentals need to be FUN-damentals." 

In the Abundant Life Blueprint I think there are two fundamentals that we need to keep working to master and continue to drill, but we also need to make sure we keep them fun. I believe the two fundamentals are...

1. Doing what you know to do each day with a good attitude(30 Day Prayer Challenge)
2. Daily communion with an emphasis on meditating on God's steadfast unfailing love. 

Here is another angle of God's love for our communion meditation today. 

In 1 Corinthians 13 it says that love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. The word "always," stuck out to me recently. God is love therefore we could say that God always does these things. He is always the same and never changes. God is always protecting us and keeping us from evil, always trusting in us, always hoping, and he keeps doing good all the time. It is important to remember that this love must work from all angles. We must receive God's love, reciprocate his love back to him, love ourselves, and let his love flow through us to others. We love because he first loved us. Faith works through love, so as we grow in love it makes our faith more effective.

In the Abundant Life Blueprint there are two important things to get established. 

1. The 30 Day Prayer Challenge Process: Pray the 2 minute prayer each day then take a few minutes to listen and plan your day with God. Do the things you know to do and do them with a good attitude trusting that God is helping you. 
2. Daily Communion with Jesus: Communion has the power to change the trajectory of our lives. It is the most important thing. At our house we take communion daily and keep a box of matzo crackers and grape juice on hand.
