Binding the Strong Man

Listen to the Audio

Multiple times in the gospels Jesus talks about binding the strong man. For example, in Matthew 3:27 he says, "No one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house."

But, who is the strong man?

I had always read these verses under the impression that Satan was the strong man and we are binding him, but recently I feel like God is showing me that we are the strong man now and Satan is trying to bind us.

As I was thinking about this I asked my wife what she thought of when I mentioned the phrase, "binding the strongman."

Her immediate response was the story of Samson.

In the story of Samson, he had supernatural strength from God, and the Philistine leaders were trying to figure out how to bind him.

In Judges 16:5 the Philistines say to the Delilah the woman that Samson loves, "See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him."

Delilah tries several times to learn the secret to Samson's strength but he never tells her the secret.

Then in Judges 16:15-17 Delilah says, "This is the third time you have made a fool of me and haven’t told me the secret of your great strength.” 16 With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it. 17 So he told her everything."

The strong man was bound because he gave in to a nagging issue that he became sick to death of.

In today's communion we are thanking God that he has made us to be strong in Christ and we are asking insight and revelation into how to apply the lessons in these stories into our lives the way he designed it.

Today's Workout/Health Tip

In the story about binding the strong man in Luke chapter 11 Jesus says he drives out demons by the finger of God. He gets rid of bondage by the finger of God. Something to test out in your body is what I call Touchpoints. Whenever you have an area of your body that feels bound... Tight, restricted, or even painful, give that area a very light touch with one of your fingers. Then repeat whatever movement felt bound up and most of the time you will notice an immediate improvement in the area. This is one of the most powerful ways I have found to improve areas of the body that are tight, bound up, or painful.

I am praying for you.
