For a long time I wavered on whether I was supposed to do business or ministry. Should I be selling what I have or giving it all away for free. But then God began to teach me to do business AND ministry. I believe that in some way or another we are all called to both business and ministry because there is some work we are supposed to be doing. And in whatever we do, we need to mix both the principles of good business and ministry. Jesus said in the parable of the talents to "Do business until I return." I think doing business means to be a good steward, diligent, track the results, be looking to expand, and operate at a profit so that the mission can continue. To do ministry means to do good, be generous, help people, and connect them to God by letting people see God through you.
In whatever we are doing all of these things need to be combined.
Another verse that has really helped me is Proverbs 11:24-26...
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. 25 A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. 26 People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
In this verse we see both giving and selling. Something I noticed recently is that when we are willing to sell it causes people to pray for us. When we give God takes care of us and causes us to prosper but when we sell it causes people to pray God's blessing on us. In my own experience this has been true.
In today's communion we are asking for God's help to do both business and ministry in a way that is both pleasing to Him and is right in the eyes of people.
Today's Workout/Health Tip
Lately I have been meditating on Colossians 2:19 which says, "They have lost connection with the head(Jesus), from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow."
A couple things to note about this verse. The head controls the body. In our exercise we should pay close attention to our head position and alignment because it impacts the whole body. If you are ever wondering where to position your head... lift up your eyes.
The other part of this verse I have been thinking about is our connective tissue. Many people focus on training the muscles but I think it's more important to focus on the connective tissue because it is what supports and holds the body together. This is something I have been asking God for increased understanding on... so hopefully more to come soon on this.
I am praying for you.
