Here is today's communion meditation.
I once read about a concept called "catching bids," in a marriage book called "Cherish," by Gary Thomas.
In the book Thomas says that catching bids is one of the best predictors of marital happiness and divorce. A bid is anytime your spouse tries to connect with you. For example, do they initiate a conversation, ask you to do something with them, try to give you a hug/kiss, or initiate intimacy. Catching the bid would mean that we stop whatever we are doing (even if we think it's more important) and honor their attempt to connect. The best marriages he says catch about 85% of all bids.
I think this concept is important for all of our relationships, because to not catch a bid is dishonoring to others. The last two days we have talked about the Fear of the Lord, being deep honor and respect for God. And God is also throwing bids our way every day, and it's important to stop what we are doing and catch His bids.
Something I am learning is that God has hidden opportunities all throughout our day, but they are usually hidden in the form of a bid thrown our way by him or people in our lives. But, when we don't catch the bid, we miss the amazing opportunity he was sending our way, because we were too busy with other things.
One of the best examples we have of this in the Bible is Jesus with the little kids. The kids come running up to Jesus wanting to connect with him. The disciples then try to push the kids away because Jesus was busy doing important things. But Jesus rebukes the disciples and tells them to let the children come to him. Even though he was busy, Jesus stopped what he was doing and honored their bid.
In today's communion we are thanking God that he catches all of our bids(Imagine trying to connect with God and him saying... Not now I am busy). And we are asking him for his help to become more like him in catching bids both from him and people.
Today's Health/Workout Tip
One of the greatest ways I have found to reduce or eliminate joint pain or stiffness is with what I call Touchpoints. If you are experiencing pain, tightness, or stiffness in a movement or stretch give the area a light touch with your finger using the same amount of pressure you would use to open an app on your phone. Then repeat the movement again, most of the time it will be greatly improved.
I am praying for you.
