I once gave a baseball lesson to a 10 year old kid I had been working with for a few months. His swing had improved, but as we were hitting he started to struggle.
He began to hit every ball straight into the ground and became very frustrated. After several swings like this we stopped and fixed the problem. His swing was good but at the point of contact he was releasing his hands too early which was causing him to hit every ball straight into the ground.
So we stopped and made an adjustment. It took about 2 minutes but when we were done he proceeded to hit about 20 of the best balls he had ever hit. Now the ground balls turned into line drives and maybe even home runs. Sometimes it is just a small adjustment at the point of contact that makes all the difference.
The point of contact is a spiritual principle. I didn’t realize it at the time, but Oral Roberts wrote a book titled How to Find Your Point of Contact With God. Needs are constantly coming our way. They could be financial needs, health needs, relationship needs, etc When those demands come they are a point of contact that allows us release faith in God or try to fix the issues ourself. We can hit a groundball or a homerun and the difference is often just a small adjustment.
The point of contact creates a bridge of trust that allows our faith in God to be released out into the world. The best way I have found to have a successful point of contact is by taking communion. When demands come our way we can take communion as a symbol of trusting in God. When trust is high God's power flows and changes the trajectory of the situation.
