Charged (Tsavah) Find God's Treasure Within

In the Spring, Easter is a reminder of renewal and making things new. It is also a reminder of the treasure God put within us. When Jesus rose from the dead God planted his spirit in our hearts as a seed and that seed contains treasure. It has everything we need for life and godliness, including directions on our purpose, or charge in life. In 1 Chronicles 22 King David charged Solomon with building God's temple. In Hebrew the word "charge," is tsavah, which means something similar to a guidance system like a GPS to guide us into the treasure of God's plan and purpose for our lives. One of the phrases I came across when researching the Hebrew was " a treasure map to the heart of God."

God planted his seed in our hearts, and it contains treasure. God has called us to a holy calling and has given us purpose and grace in Christ Jesus before time ever began. Through Jesus, God has given us access to everything God has... His wisdom, understanding, power, love, kingdom, righteousness, peace, joy, faith, energy, health, time, finances, and more including our purpose or charge in life.

Spring is a reminder of this treasure within us and our charge in life. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you and will bring life to your mortal body(Romans 8:11). The apostle Paul says that we have treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not ourselves. God has given us something like a treasure map or guidance system on the inside and I believe this Hebrew word "tsavah," can teach us more about this concept.

In 1 Chronicles 22 when David is getting ready to transition the kingdom to Solomon, and David charges Solomon with building the temple for God. The word for used for charge is the word tsavah. Before we get into the meaning of tsavah, I think it is important to remember that the spring time is a reminder every year that we are supposed to be charged up all the time. The apostle Paul charged Timothy to be preach the word in season and out of season, to rebuke, correct, and encourage. He needed to be ready and fresh all the time. The key to staying fresh all the time is humility and taking a more gentle approach and leaving some margin in everything we do. Take a more gentle and humble approach in order to stay charged up.

When David charged Solomon he was giving Solomon his assignment or instructions. God has charged each of us with a specific assignment or purpose in life and part of the charge is that God will supply everything that is needed for the charge. He not only gives us the charge but also equips us with what is needed to walk it out. In the case of Solomon, his father David had all of the instructions for how to build the temple with exact measurements. He even had the measurements for how much the forks and serving dishes were supposed to weigh, and he said he had all of this in writing from the hand of God. David also had the exact plans from God for how the temple was to operate, with the singers, offerings, etc. And on top of all of this David had accumulated and set aside great treasures to build the temple with. He had stored up 100,000 talents of gold, 1 million talents of silver, precious stones, and bronze, iron, and wood beyond measure. David had everything ready to go when he charged Solomon.

I believe the same holds true for us today. Whatever God has charged us to do in life he will supply the plan, equipping, and all of the resources needed to walk it out and it is all in his purpose and grace given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

This word tsavah in Hebrew sounds like a command but the actual meaning is closer to guidance, instruction, or directions. One of the translations of this word comes from a pile of rocks. In ancient times people used to pile up rocks to serve as landmarks and provide direction. You could also think of it like a series of stepping stones that show the path. This word tsavah is not so much a command that you are obligated to do as it is a guidance system to show you the path God has laid out for you before time began.

Tsavah is like a treasure map to the heart of God. After charging Solomon, David said he had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of God. The question is... What is the charge in your heart? What is the dream in your heart or the thing you are excited, motivated, or inspired to do? These are keys to finding the charge that God put in your heart. Some of the Hebrew translations of this point to an end goal or destination along with the guidance and stepping stones in your heart to get there. He will guide us from the inside to help us get there, but it will require faith to walk this plan out. Faith that the path and supply are there.

One of the keys to unlocking all of this is the fear of the Lord. I am learning that the fear of the Lord is something God teaches us. The fear of the Lord is reverence, honor, respect, and awe of him. It is reverence for him, his word, and his plan for our lives.  Isaiah 33:6 say He(God) will be the sure foundation of your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge, the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. The fear of the Lord is the key to the treasure God has given us.

When we have the fear of the Lord we accept his charge for our lives and walk it out in order to honor and revere him, rather than out of obligation or being forced. He gives us the freewill to follow his charge for our lives. And we can walk out his charge and plan for our lives, out of honor, respect, and awe for who God is and what he has done for us. As we do this I believe we will find that the fear of the Lord is the key that unlocks God's charge for our lives including the plan, equipping and resources needed to make it happen. As we walk it out and see him come through it will only increase our levels of reverence and awe of him.
