With many churches not able to have regular services right now I still believe it's important to take regular communion.
Several years ago, I was feeling under the weather and tried to heal with proper nutrition, etc. As I began to pray and ask God what the issue was, the answer I received was "when was the last time you took communion." The truth is, I was attempting to heal myself rather than trusting in God. It had been several weeks since I had taken communion but after taking it that night I felt better quickly. And from that moment on, my family and I started taking communion almost every night.
Communion serves as a point of contact to express your faith in what Jesus did over 2000 years ago.
Communion brings his sacrifice into your current moment as you remember that he bore your sins and by his stripes you were healed. When I take the bread I visualize God pouring the cup of his wrath on Jesus so that I can have his cup of blessing.
When I take the juice I remember that the blood is a symbol of our partnership with God. That we have an invisible partner who is doing continually good for us and can help in any and every situation. I don't have to rely on my limited knowledge and abilities.
Whenever there is increased pressure in life take communion more often...
If you are worried about your health and safety take communion.
If you are worried about your finances take communion.
If you are worried about a relationship or family member take communion.
When you make plans for your life take communion over them.
I believe taking communion regularly changes the trajectory of your life.
At our house, we keep a box of matzo crackers and grape juice/red wine on hand. If you are not able to get access to those exact foods right now, use whatever you have. The important part is putting something physical that you do paired with remembrance and bringing what Jesus did into your present moment.
