Communion Meditation for Forgetting Troubles

Listen to the Audio

This is a special communion meditation for forgetting troubles and painful memories. Sometimes in life we go through painful or traumatic experiences that can keep replaying in our minds over and over for years after the event. And there may be certain triggers such as words, smells, sounds, places, etc that trigger these memories to start stirring up on the inside again. Nothing is impossible with God and he can make us forget these troubles and painful memories. God can make all things new and give us a fresh start.

When we go through these types of experiences in life they are usually times of very high emotions and these emotions seem to embed them deeply into our hearts and souls. In this communion meditation we are going to ask God to help us remember these things no more.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for all those watching, listening, or reading this and their families, friends, and all those connected to them along with our church and governmental leaders.

Thank you for releasing us from darkness and transferring us into the light, into the kingdom of your dear son. Thank you for your purpose and grace given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

I ask that you the father of glory would give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation so we would know you better. That the eyes of our hearts would be enlightened to know the hope to which you have called us, and the riches of your glorious inheritance that is in us, and the immeasurable greatness of your power to us who believe. The same power that you exercised in Christ when you raised him from the dead, and seated him at your right hand in heavenly places, and the same power that can make us forget all of our troubles, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named. Not only in this age but also in the one to come. And you put all things under his feet and made him to be the head of all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Heavenly Father, bless us and make your face shine upon us. Let us find grace and favor in your eyes. Let us come away from this time of communion different and renewed in our hearts, spirits, and souls. Expand our borders and our territory. Expand our capacity to receive your purpose and grace, and all that you want to do in our lives, and to let it flow through us so that we do good and are a blessing to people all over the world. Keep your hand on us and help us do TODAY what is right and best in your eyes. And to do it with peace and joy, and confidence in you. And as we do stretch out your hand to heal and do signs and wonders. And keep us from evil and pain.

Through the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

Communion Meditation

I was reading the other day in the book of Ezekial about God's grief, sorrow, and pain that his people had caused him. The cup of his wrath was filling up. God had painful memories that were storing up on the inside of him. But, he poured all of those emotions and pains onto the body of Christ. He poured the cup of his wrath onto the body of Jesus and then he says their sins I will remember no more. We can take an example from God and do the same. We can come to the communion table and bring our painful memories and experiences to the sacrifice of Jesus. We can meet God there and receive his power to remember no more. This power is in Christ.

Every time we take communion we do so with holy awe for the sacrifice of Jesus and we are proclaiming the death of Jesus. The death of Jesus was the transition from the old to the new. It was the transition from the Old Covenant to the New. It is the transition where we put the old things to death and receive the power to be made new. As we take communion we are receiving it in the present moment, and at the moment we receive it there is a turning that happens. From this point on we go forward differently. It is the turning point and things are going to be different from now on. God is going to make us remember these things no more. We can't do it on our own, but with him nothing is impossible.

On the night Jesus was betrayed he took the bread and said this is my body broken for you, do this in remembrance of me. The bread is a reminder that when God had painful memories he poured the cup of his wrath onto the body of Christ. That was his answer and Christ is also the answer for us. It is the place where we can remember no more. Painful experiences, guilt, shame, condemnation, reproach, and much more can all be rolled away and we can be made new. God can give us all new memories. As we take the bread it is the turning point. From this point on we are receiving it and things will be different from this point forward.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the bread and what it represents and ask you to bless this bread in Jesus name. Take your cracker now.

In the the Bible Joseph had some very painful memories. His brothers sold him into slavery and he went through years of hell before finally becoming ruler of all of Egypt. When Joseph became the ruler of Egypt he had two sons and here is what it says about his sons in Genesis 41...

51 Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” 52 The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”

God was able to do so much good for Joseph that he forgot all of his troubles. Not only did God cause Joseph to forget his troubles, but he turned the place of trouble into a place of tremendous fruit and blessing. God can take our troubles and not only cause us to forget them but he can also turn them into something good. He can make us fruitful in the land of our suffering.

The cup is a reminder of our covenant with God. We have been given a covenant of love. God has given us his steadfast love. He poured the cup of his wrath on Christ and then he gave us everything he had. He gave us his Spirit, wisdom, mind, love, peace, joy, power, and so much more. He has given us his love and love never fails. We can meet God in the middle in Christ and he can make us forget all of our troubles. He can take away the pain and cause us to become fruitful in the place where evil was done to us.

This communion is an activator. It is a turning point where we let these things go, we give them to God, receive his help, and move forward as a new person. A good idea would be to write down the date that you took this communion and use it as a reminder that this was the day everything turned.

On the night Jesus was betrayed he took the cup and said this is the cup of the New Covenant in my blood poured out for the forgiveness of sins of many. God, we ask you to bless this cup in Jesus name.

Hopefully, there is a turning an activation happening right now. From this point on we must follow through and finish high by keeping our covenant of love. Keep your eyes fixed on God's steadfast love for you. He is working continually for your good. If you are ever tempted to start dwelling on the past again take a deep breath and get back in the present moment with God. You can also use communion again as a reminder. As we look forward to the future we put our hope and trust in God's unfailing love for us and let his love flow through us to others. Remain in his love and let it flow through you to others.
