This is a time of year when many shifts and transitions happen. Every year God wants to move us to new levels. As shifts and transitions occur there may be the temptation to fall back into old patterns instead of embracing a new way of life. Choose to keep growing, expanding, and moving forward rather than going back to old habits.
As a practical example, I recently noticed something in Esther 8:8. After a command was given by the king to destroy God's people the tables were turned and the king now tells God's people to write whatever they want in the king's name. Jesus also says that if we abide in him we can ask for whatever we want in his name.
Prior to this I had been feeling that God wanted me to start writing out regularly what I wanted, or what I was asking/believing him for each day, week, month, and year. Then to pray over it and give it to him.
From the moment I prayed and gave it to him I was to move into "Confident Expectation of Good." This phrase is the Amplified Bibles definition of the word hope. Hope is the feeling of trust, and when we trust we rest, knowing that God is working.
To be confident implies that we have no doubt. Everything is aligned toward the confident expectation that God will bring to pass what we wrote out. This is not confidence in ourselves, but in God. We often pray and believe but we still have little doubts that are pulling us in opposite directions. Jesus said that if we would believe and not doubt we could have what we say. One of the most powerful ways to build this confidence is ramping up our praise and gratitude. The more we write and speak it the more it removes doubt.
When we have no doubt pulling us in other directions everything is aligned toward the goal. Recently, I was helping my daughter with a second grade science experiment where we turned a nail into a temporary magnet. The way to create a temporary magnet is to slide a magnet over the nail enough times in only one direction. This causes the molecules in the nail to align in the direction of the sliding magnet, which turns the nail turns into a magnet. But, as soon as the nail is shaken, heated, or put under pressure the molecules revert back to their old habit.
If we will write out what we want and then consistently stay focused on that direction with gratitude, praise, and the confident expectation of good it turns our bodies and lives into a temporary magnet that pulls our requests into our lives. But, the real test comes when our lives get shaken or we are in the heat or pressure. If during these times we revert to doubting and focusing in other directions rather than the confident expectation of good our magnetism is lost.
In Numbers 12 after Miriam rebells against Moses she becomes leprous and spends 7 days outside the camp. But after the incident it says that the people moved from Hazeroth ( which means a hedged in thorny place) to the Desert of Paran ( which means a beautiful glorious place). Jesus wore a crown of thorns so that God could give us a beautiful crown of glory.
If you feel like you are hedged in a thorny place and want to move to a beautiful place here is what I recommend...
