Recently we had Groundhog Day, and it made me think of the movie where Bill Murray gets stuck in the daily loop. He wakes up to the same day every day. There are a bunch of movies with this theme now and they all follow the same plot. The person who is stuck in the same day over and over starts to go eat a bunch of food, spending money, and indulge themselves. Then they realize this doesn't make them happy, so they usually get depressed and basically give up for a while. Then they eventually turn and start to focus on how they can do good and love others during the day. They realize the amazing gift they have been given and start to develop new skills like playing instruments, art, etc and start to see all of the opportunities to do good for others. Eventually this new way of living is what breaks them out of the vicious cycle they were in.
In life sometimes we get stuck in vicious cycles that seem very hard to break free from. If we are in a cycle, it means we need to do something different and make the most of today. It usually means we need to move to a higher level of being more present, practicing skills, and doing a higher level of good for others.
In today's communion we are thanking God for the gift of today and we are asking for his help to break us free from vicious cycles and turn them into virtuous cycles that create ripple effects for good across every area of our lives.
Today's Workout/Health Tip
The Daily Communion Workout is a consistent daily routine where we practice the fundamentals of fitness each day. In my own workouts I started with the current weights I am using sometime in November( wish I had written down the day), and I am getting to the point where the weights are feeling easy. Yesterday I increased the weights on a few exercises because they had gotten easy. And at the new weight it still felt very easy so I may need to increase the weights more than I thought. This means I practiced with the same weights every day for 60-90 days. The weights started at a medium level and now they are fairly easy. Something to keep in mind about progress is that it usually comes in waves or surges, not in a straight line. Progress in fitness and even weight loss usually looks more like a stock market chart. There will be daily fluctuations up and down, but we want to see the trend improving over time and progress usually comes in big jumps.
I am praying for you.
Daniel
