In Deuteronomy 9 God told the people he was not bringing them into the promised land because they were so great. He didn't bring them in because of their righteousness or goodness. He was bringing them in because of the wickedness that was in the promised land and because of his covenant with Abraham. In fact, if it hadn't been for Moses, God would have destroyed the people, because they kept rebelling.
In Deuteronomy 9:13 God said, “I have seen this people, and they are a stiff-necked people indeed! 14 Let me alone, so that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven."
In the same way we have all missed it and could have been destroyed by God. But Jesus was destroyed for us, so that we didn't have to be.
In John 2:19 Jesus said, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
The temple Jesus was referring to was his body. He was destroyed by God for us so that we didn't have to be and we are now children of God. In Hebrew the definition of the word "son," is a builder of the family name.
Destroying and building are opposites.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude that Jesus was destroyed so that we can be builders God's family name, building his reputation. And we are asking for insight and understanding into how Jesus was destroyed for us so that we can be builders.
Today's Workout/Health Tip
When it comes to fitness I think there are two approaches we can take. The worlds approach is to destroy the body by training it to the extreme in hopes that it will build back stronger. The worldly approach is constantly tearing the body down. But, I think there is a different approach that works better... which is to focus on building the body each day. Take a more gentle approach and build your body.
I am praying for you.
