Heap Burning Coals on Their Head

Listen to the Podcast

The other day during a conversation I had someone speak to me in a tone that wasn't very nice. My initial reaction probably wasn't the best, but then I repented, apologized, and humbled myself in order to make the relationship right.

After it was over, I felt like God was telling me... You just heaped burning coals on their head.

Proverbs 25:21-22 and Romans 12:20 say, "If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. 22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you."

What are these burning coals about?

I started doing a little research on this, and everything that I can find points to repentance. If we will bless when others wrong us it will put an end to it because it will cause others to make a change.

A story that gives us an illustration of this principle is found in 2 Kings 6...

The King of Aram sent an army to surround and kill Elisha. When Elisha’s servant saw the soldiers surrounding them he was terrified , but Elisha asked GOD to open his eyes. Suddenly they could see an army of angels protecting them. Then Elisha asked God to blind the army.  Once the army was blinded he took them to the king of Israel. The king asked Elisha, “Shall I kill them, my father? Shall I kill them?” “Do not kill them,” he answered. “Would you kill those you have captured with your own sword or bow? Set food and water before them so that they may eat and drink and then go back to their master.” So he prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. So the bands from Aram stopped raiding Israel’s territory.

In today's communion we are asking God for insight into what these verses on heaping burning coals mean, and for help to do good and bless at all times.

Today's Health/Fitness Tip

Yesterday, we said it's time to train. There is a difference between working out and training. One of the easiest ways to turn working out into training is to keep a workout journal and track your workouts over time.

I am praying for you.
