Honey is one of the few foods that if stored properly doesn't expire. Archeologists have found honey that was thousands of years old, and it was still good. Everything God created is meant to teach us about Jesus and I think it's no coincidence that he calls the promised land a land of milk and honey. The land he has for us doesn't expire. Even when we feel we have missed it or we are taking too long... it doesn't expire. It is still waiting for us.
As I was thinking about honey I started researching verses on honey. Here are some of the verses that came up...
Proverbs 24:13-14 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.
Psalm 81:16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
Deuteronomy 32:13 He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag,
Proverbs 25:16 If you find honey, eat just enough— too much of it, and you will vomit.
As I was reading through these the phrase "honey from the rock," stood out to me. Today's communion is a time of gratitude that what God has for us doesn't expire and we are asking him for honey from the rock.
Today's Workout/Health Tip
Years ago I started compiling research on longevity. I was looking for people who had lived past 100 years old and were still thriving. I found plenty of them and accumulated about 100 pages of stories and interviews with these people. I was looking for what they had in common. Mindset seemed to be the most important thing, but one of the foods that kept showing up over and over was honey. If honey doesn't expire then it makes sense that it would be good for longevity. Honey is good for health and longevity, just not too much.
I am praying for you.
