It is Finished...A Sudden Flow

Here is today's communion meditation.

This morning I was reading in John chapters 19 and 20 and a few things stood out to me. When Jesus knew everything was completed so that the Scriptures would be fulfilled he asked for a drink of the wine vinegar. He had promised his disciples he would not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes, but when he had received the drink he said...It is finished.

After he died the soldiers were breaking the bones of the others on the cross, but in order to fulfill prophecies already written not one of the bones of Jesus was broken. Instead the soldiers pierced his side, and John 19:34 says it brought a sudden flow of blood and water. Isaiah 53:5 says that Jesus was pierced for our transgressions. Another word for transgressions is rebellion. He was pierced for all the ways we have been rebellious, but when we look on him, it is the piercing that reminds us that God can bring a sudden flow of blood and water in our lives. The blood of the New Covenant that cleanses us and forgives our sins and a sudden flow of rivers of living water in our lives. Both blood and water.

Later in John 20 is the story of doubting Thomas. He said he would not believe Jesus was raised from the dead unless he put his fingers into the marks of his hands and put his hand into his side, the side that was pierced. When Jesus appears to the disciples Thomas gets to put his touch the marks on the hands of Jesus and put his hand into the side of Jesus, but Jesus says that those who believe in him without having to physically touch his hands or his side are blessed.

As we take communion today let it be a reminder that it is finished. Jesus was pierced for our transgressions and his piercing is a reminder that God can cause a sudden flow in our lives.

I am praying for you.

Here is how we do the Daily Communions...

1) Start with the 30 Day Prayer Challenge Prayer

2) Do the other half of prayer by listening to God and planning your day with him. Here are the steps.

Fill out the form here and have your plan emailed to you.

  1.  What were your wins over the last 24 hours?
  2. Did you have overflowing levels of peace, joy, and confidence in God over the last 24 hours? It is either yes or no.
  3. What do you know to do over the next 24 hours? List little things + things you feel God is prompting.
  4. What is the most important thing you feel God is teaching you over the last 24 hour?

3) Meditate on the daily communion teaching for a few minutes.

4) Take communion. At our house we take communion daily and keep a box of matzo crackers and grape juice on hand.

5) Execute your plan with a good attitude trusting that God is helping you.

6) The daily videos and audios guide you through this process.
