Lately I have been thinking about Hebrews 4 which tells us to labor or make every effort to enter God's rest. Laboring to enter His rest seems like a contradiction, but I have learned that in areas where we struggle it definitely takes labor to enter into His rest.
It can often seem like we pray about something, but then it takes some serious effort to learn how to completely turn it over to God and rest in that area. When I played baseball in college we would train and practice the same things over and over and over again so that when it was game time, and the pressure was on we could do things automatically without having to think about them. Through training, our responses became automatic. In a similar way I think we have to train ourselves to stay at rest, because we all have buttons in our life that can get pushed that make us want to get out of that rest.
Here is Hebrews 4:9-11 to meditate on today...
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude that in Christ, God has given us a sabbath rest. And we are asking for His help to enter into that rest.
Today's Health/Fitness Tip
I like to train with the exact same weights in my workouts until I get to a place of confidence with that weight. Another way I think about this is training until I get to a place of rest, where I can keep my body totally calm, under control, and at rest with that weight. Once I get to this place then I increase and train to be able to stay totally at rest in my mind with increased resistance.
I am praying for you.
