Here is today's communion meditation.
Psalm 48:9 says "Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love."
We are God's temple now and one of the most important things to meditate on is his steadfast unfailing love. To meditate means to ponder, imagine, think about, mutter, recite, and rehearse. One of my favorite ways to meditate is to go for a walk with God and meditate on his unfailing love. Think about this for a moment...Love never fails. While walking I may say scriptures such as God so loved the world that he sent Jesus and if he gave us Jesus how will he not freely give us all things. His love has been shed abroad in our hearts and love never fails.
In Psalm 49:3 it says "My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the meditation of my heart will give understanding. It is meditating on God's unfailing love that leads to us having understanding. What is it we are supposed to understand?
When I wrote my book The 8th Date it all started with a verse from Proverbs 4 which says "Though it cost you everything, gain understanding." I went through about 2 years of struggle but God finally showed me that I understood. What I needed to understand was his grace and steadfast unfailing love.
As we take communion today it is a reminder that in this New Covenant God has given us his steadfast unfailing love and grace. He could have gotten mad and retaliated at us for all the ways we have missed it or he could have just left us alone and withdrawn his presence, but instead he chose the way of love. He made an unwavering covenant commitment to love us and give us grace all the time, and love never fails. He is working to make us great and that will never change.
The other day we had some candy in the house and my 4 year old was asking for a piece. I told her that if she waited until after dinner that she could have 2 pieces. She thought about it for a moment, then put her hands on her hips and said, " Ok, I trust you." Jesus said that the greatest in the kingdom will be those that humble themselves like little children. As we meditate on God's unfailing love it will help us get to a place where we understand God's love and grace and finally say, " Ok, God I trust you." Perfect love casts out all fear, and when the fear is gone, faith and confidence in God rise up.
Meditating on God's unfailing love leads to hearts that understand and understanding leads to knowing what to do.
I am praying for you.
