Patience & Perseverance

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says... Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Our charge is to love God and people which means being both patient and persistent at the same time. Here are some definitions of patience and perseverance...

Patience

• the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.
• the ability to remain calm and not become annoyed when dealing with problems or with difficult people
• the ability to give attention to something for a long time without becoming bored or losing interest

Perseverance

• persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
• continued effort and determination:

To have both patience and perseverance means to handle difficulties, troubles, delays, etc with a good attitude.

God is love and he has given us his patience and perseverance on the inside. In today's communion we are asking him to expand our capacity to receive his patience and perseverance and to let it flow through us.
