Pouring Out for Increased Capacity

Recently I feel God has been nudging me to do daily videos and to have a communion meditation for each day.

Here is today's communion meditation.

Pouring Out for Increased Capacity

The cup of God's wrath was poured out onto the body of Jesus. All of God's anger and frustration with our sins was poured onto Jesus. The cracker in communion is a symbol of the righteousness of Jesus that has been given to us. We have peace with God through his sacrifice.  Jesus poured out his life unto death so that we could be righteous and holy in God's eyes.

His sacrifice has given us access into everything God has... His wisdom, his righteousness, his kingdom, his love, his faith, his peace, his joy, his energy, his time, his power, his health, his finances. and so much more.

We have been given this tremendous gift and we must expand our capacity to receive all that God has done and let it flow in our lives. The greatest way to increase our capacity is to pour out as well. We can begin to imitate God and Jesus by pouring out. In the story of the woman pouring olive oil into jars the oil kept flowing as long as she poured out. If a tea pot is full then the only way to increase the capacity is find some cups or jars and pour out to make more room.

When we are pouring out by doing good it makes us externally focused which increases our love. But to pour out requires trusting and feeling secure. When we are lacking trust or feeling insecure we tend to turn inward to protect and guard ourselves.

God has given us this tremendous treasure on the inside and we must learn to get it flowing out into the world by pouring out

Proverbs 11:23- 27 is a passage about the importance of pouring out rather than hanging onto things.

23 The desire of the righteous ends only in good,
    but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.

24 One person gives freely, yet gains even more;
    another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

25 A generous person will prosper;
    whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

26 People curse the one who hoards grain,
    but they pray God’s blessing on the one who is willing to sell.

27 Whoever seeks good finds favor,
    but evil comes to one who searches for it.

It is counterintuitive but the way to grow and expand even when it looks like we don't have enough is by pouring out and being generous. When we hang onto things and hoard things out of fear and a lack of trust it leads to things diminishing rather than increasing.

This is something I had to learn in the area of finances. Often there were repairs that needed to be done or good that I saw to do, but I would hang onto my money out of fear of not having enough later. As I would hang onto my money it would never increase, by being willing to pour out into good, it led to finances flowing more.

Here is another verse from 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 that I came across last night.

11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

When the desire comes to do something good for people around you or to be a good steward of what God has entrusted to you take the step trusting that God will replenish you and bring it to fruition so that his name is glorified.

As we take the cup it is a reminder of our New Covenant in the blood of Jesus. I was just talking with someone whose husband had passed away and we were discussing all of the work that has to be done to close out his life. Because of Jesus we have this amazing gift of grace and all of the work has been done and prepared. Our role is to is to seek him, follow him, and give other people the same grace and love he has given us.
