Priming the Pump

Here is today's communion meditation.

A new concept I feel God's been showing me has to do with priming the pump. When my kids were babies there were times when they would be up in the middle of the night. During those times I learned that if I prayed in the Spirit, I could wake up feeling just as energized as if I had slept all night. In my book Cracking Heaven's Code. I say that praying in the Spirit is one of the greatest ways to increase energy and it primes the pump to get things flowing at a higher level.

Recently as I was thinking about this, I began to research what priming the pump really does. Priming a pump uses mechanical pressure to remove all of the air out of a pipeline so that the water flows. In Song of Solomon chapter 4, Solomon is speaking to his bride, which is a picture of Jesus speaking to us, and he says that she is a garden fountain that is locked, a well of living water. Jesus said that if anyone would believe in him, then out of his innermost being would flow rivers of living water. This well of living water is in us and that living water contains everything God has... His Spirit, power, presence, love, peace, joy, health, energy, and so much more. But we must prime the pump to see it flowing in our lives.

Priming the pump is removing all of the air out of the pipeline, and in both the Old and New Testament the words that are used for Spirit mean wind or breath. The Holy Spirit came in like a rushing wind. When we pray in the Spirit it is priming the pump so that the air, the spiritual prayers that God needs prayed, are pulled out of the system so that the rivers of living water can flow. This process is initiated by mechanical pressure. Therefore, when life puts pressure on us and squeezes us one of the greatest things we can do is pray in the Spirit so that the rivers of living water meet all of demands coming at us.

In today's communion we are thanking God for this well of living water he put within us, and we are asking for his help to keep the pump primed every day by praying in the Spirit.

I am praying for you.

Daniel
