Psalm 23

Listen to the Audio

Over the last couple of days Psalm 23:5 keeps coming to mind... God prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Proverbs 16:7 says When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them.

In today's communion we are meditating on Psalm 23, and thanking God for these amazing promises.

1   The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2   He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3   he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

4  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6  Surely your goodness and love will follow me  all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Today's Workout/Health Tip

Yesterday I came across a fitness trainer I know of who was doing an experiment. For 6 weeks he greatly increased his workout volume and trained for 3 hours per day. Over those 6 weeks he gained a bunch of muscle and saw great results. This reminded me of a time in my gym years ago when I had an engineer help me develop formulas for every exercise we did so that we could track the workload that each workout produced. Over the course of 12 weeks I greatly increased my workout volume just like the other trainers experiment. I also saw great results, but the problem that the other trainer and I both found was that it wasn't sustainable. It meant working out for hours every day and splitting the workouts up into multiple workouts per day. One lesson I learned from this is that the volume of work makes a big difference in results, but to keep adding more and more work is not sustainable.

Instead, I have learned to set a total amount of reps to complete for each day that is sustainable, and then to get stronger so that I can produce more work within the same number of reps. This allows for an increase in workload without having to increase the time it takes. Another key learning lesson that both of us learned is that the human body can handle way more work than we think.

I am praying for you.
