Have you ever tried to communicate by email or phone with someone who isn't responding or been working on your phone/computer and it wasn't responding? This can be very frustrating. To respond is to acknowledge that you received their message and take the appropriate action. God wants our hearts to be responsive to him in that we acknowledge and appreciate all he is doing in our lives and make quick adjustments when needed.
In both 2 Chronicles 34 and 2 Kings 22 is the story of King Josiah. He has workmen who are restoring the temple and they find the Book of the Law, which was the Bible they had at that time. When his officials read it to him, he hears about all of the ways they have missed it. Immediately he begins to repent and humble himself before God. After humbling himself God tells him...
Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD. Now I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.’”
In today's communion we are asking God to help our hearts be soft and responsive to his grace and his leading in our lives.
I am praying for you.
Daniel
