Here is today's communion meditation.
When Jesus sent the twelve disciples out in his name to heal, he told them in Matthew 10:12-15 and Mark 6:10-11...
As you enter the home, give it your greeting. 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet. Matthew 10:12-15
Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” Mark 6:10-11
Yesterday we talked about dealing with rejection when we are trying to do good, but people won't receive it. In this scripture we see the disciples going out to do good, but Jesus tells them there will be people who reject them and won't receive them. The first thing they must do when they are rejected is let their peace return to them. They were not to let it upset them, but to let their peace return to them. Then they were to shake the dust off of their feet as a testimony against them.
What does dust have to do with all of this?
Recently I had a weird feeling on the inside. I was seeking after God, but it seemed like something was blocking my ability to hear from him clearly. It was the first time in about 9 months of doing these daily communion meditations that I sat down and had nothing to talk about and didn't record anything. After seeking God about this the answer that seemed to come through one night while journaling was...You need to clean out your receiver.
When I heard this, it immediately reminded me of something one of our partners shared on a recent Zoom call about cleaning out the air filters in his house. The heat in his house wasn't working very well and it was because he needed to clean out his filters. He had been doing some renovations in his basement and all the dust from the drywall had clogged up his filters. As soon as his filters were cleaned(shaken) out his heat worked perfectly again.
When we are trying to do good, but others won't receive it, we must take the advice of Jesus and shake the dust off of our feet and not let it get to us so that it keeps our own ability to receive from him functioning at a high level.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude for all God wants to do in our lives. But sometimes our filters and ability to receive from him gets clogged up with dust and we are asking for his help to shake the dust off of our feet.
Today's Health/Workout Tip
The way I think of the Daily Communion Workout is like a workout meditation. The actual workout only takes 10-25 minutes, but it is consistent and repeated over and over. The goal is daily practice at the fundamentals. But outside of the workout the goal is to get as much variety and movement as possible. To live a more active lifestyle. To walk, hike, play games, do things around the house, etc. How can we be both more consistent in our daily practice of the fitness fundamentals while also getting a lot of other movement?
