Sometimes it's Good to be Lazy

Here is this week's Yearly Cycle Update.

Sometimes it’s good to be lazy.

There is the old story of the town that needs water, and there are two guys with two different strategies. The first guy grabs buckets and heads down to the river. His method is to fill up the buckets and then run back and fill them up again. The second guy sits down and makes a plan for building a pipeline. Then he gathers his friends to help him build the pipeline. The first guy starts making money right away, but it’s wearing him out and when the pipeline is done, he is out of business. The second guy took a lazier approach, in that he was looking for a better, more efficient way to do things, and the town is forever grateful to him.

The winter is the time to plan and look for ways to become more efficient. Efficiency buys time. All of the technology we have today came from this approach of trying to find a better way. Cars, airplanes, computers, and phones all buy time that we can use to accelerate productivity to an even higher level.

In everything that we do, there is a more efficient way. Take some time this week and look at the areas where the most time is spent, but there aren't many results. Then start to seek God with this question: “Is there a better, more efficient way to get the result I am looking for?” There is almost always a better way.

God has given us a pipeline of living water, and in the living water is everything we need, including ideas on how to be more efficient. But we must learn to receive it from him and get it flowing through us out into the world.

Keep in mind that work is also needed. The second guy who built the pipeline had to actually have the pipeline built.

Hard work and efficiency must always stay balanced together. Do the work, but always look for a better more efficient way.

I am praying for you.

Daniel
