Sweet Peaceful Sleep

Listen to the Audio

In today's communion we are receiving promises from God to help us have sweet peaceful sleep. Here are some scriptures on God giving us sleep.

Psalm 127:2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Psalm 4:8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Proverbs 3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Matthew 8:24 Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.

Jeremiah 31:23-26 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “When I bring them back from captivity, the people in the land of Judah and in its towns will once again use these words: ‘The Lord bless you, you prosperous city, you sacred mountain.’ 24 People will live together in Judah and all its towns—farmers and those who move about with their flocks. 25 I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.” 26 At this I awoke and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant to me.

Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God grants us sweet peaceful sleep. And we are asking for this gift of sweet peaceful sleep that comes from above.

Today's Workout/Health Tip

The ability to fall asleep easily and to pop out of bed in the morning with great energy are both related to our cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that helps our bodies deal with stress and it is supposed to be low before bed to help us fall asleep and high in the morning to wake us up. But often our levels are reversed with high levels at night and low levels in the morning. This makes it hard to fall asleep and hard to get out of bed. To reverse this curve we can start to dim the lights in our house as it gets closer to bed time and stop looking at screens right before bed. Also, having sweeter fruits in the evening can help to relax the body before bed. A tip I learned from a guy who lived to be 113 years old was to eat a banana before bed.

I am praying for you.
