Recently we have been talking about the power of praise and using the example of two baskets on a balancing scale... one basket filled with the issues and problems we face, and the other basket filled with our praises. Which basket are we focused on and filling with our attention and words?
While thinking about this last night I felt like God was reminding me of a passage from my book, "The 8th Date" on the fruit of our lips.
Here is the passage on The Fruit of Our Lips...
When we finally learn to rest in our imaginations, this will dramatically change our emotions, words, and actions. The fruit that God is looking for begins in our hearts as a seed, then expresses itself as peace and joy in our emotions and shows up as the fruit of our lips—lips that are full of praise, gratitude, and grace in all circumstances. In the kingdom of heaven, words carry tremendous power because they reveal what is in our heart. God created the world with words. Words carry creative power. We must believe with our hearts and confess with our mouths to produce fruit. Consider the following verses.
● Proverbs 12:14: “From the fruit of their lips, people are filled with good things.”
● Proverbs 18:20-21: “From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled, with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
● Proverbs 15:4: “A soothing tongue is a tree of life.”
● Proverbs 13:2: “From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things.”
● Hebrews 13:15: “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.”
Today's communion is a time of gratitude that from the fruit of our lips we can be filled with good things. And we are asking God for wisdom and understanding on the power of our words and for help to continually offer him a sacrifice of praise.
Today's Health/Fitness Tip
Years ago when God began to teach me about the power of our words I started paying attention to the way people in my gym would speak about their health. Without fail the people who struggled with their health the most would speak about their health very negatively and complain about their health a lot. We can start applying this into our health today. Let's fill up the praise basket in the area of health, then let it overflow into other areas of life as well. If we think about the concept of a balancing scale... the more issues we are facing the more we need to praise to offset the issues. This seems like a little thing, but it is a very big deal.
I am praying for you.
