The other day we watched the new Lion King movie as a family. During the movie the hero Simba is supposed to be the king, but after his father's death he fled to another place where he has "no worries," and he is enjoying life.
But then he finds out that his uncle who stepped in as king, has destroyed the land and made life miserable. The hero is faced with a choice, he can keep living for himself or he can go back and save his kingdom. When he has a vision of his father telling him to "remember who he is," he develops the courage to go back.
In Hollywood they call this the Heroes Journey, and it is one of the biggest keys that makes us like stories and movies. During the heroes journey it is said that the hero is on 2 journeys. One journey is the external journey to the goal and the other journey is the internal journey of growth in the hero as he moves to the goal. He/she must become the person who can get to the goal. When the internal and external become one that is when the hero becomes the hero.
In the Bible Joseph, David, and Jesus all go through the Heroes Journey.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude that Jesus is our hero. And we are asking God to help us understand how the heroes journey applies to our life and to help us step into what he has called us to do.
Today's Health and Fitness Tip
A big part of the Heroes Journey is when the internal and the external come together as one, and this is a process that often takes some time. This is also a part of our health and fitness journey, because we often must grow internally as a person before we see the external results showing up, and the process can take some time.
I am praying for you.
Daniel
