Happy 4th of July!
Here is today's communion meditation.
Proverbs 4:18-19 says, "The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like the darkest gloom; they do not know what makes them stumble."
During the summer there is increased light and it is a reminder to expand every year. God's vision and plan for our lives should be unfolding a little more each year and we should also be growing in the light we have, meaning that we know more and more of what to do. We often talk about doing what you know to do. As God's light and plan unfolds a little more it leads to a higher level of knowing what to do. When there is darkness it is easy to trip and stumble over things but as our light increases more and more we can easily step over or remove the things that once tripped us up.
Almost 10 years ago I started reading a Proverb every morning and I used to read verses like this and wonder...How do I know if I am righteous? But, one of the most important things to understand and establish in our lives is that we are righteous because of Jesus. To be righteous means to be in right standing with God. We have been given the free gift of righteousness(being right with God). We can receive this gift and allow the righteousness of Jesus to work within us to cause us to do right. Grace has the power to change our desires and help us do the right things.
As we take communion today let it be a reminder that our righteousness is found in Jesus. Because of him we are right with God and he makes our path shine brighter and brighter. Then as your light increases you will know more and more of what to do and have increased power to walk it out.
I am praying for you.
