I was once giving a baseball lesson to a 10 year old kid I had been working with for a few months. As we were going through the lesson I noticed how much his swing had improved. However, as we were hitting he started to struggle.
He began to hit every ball straight into the ground and became very frustrated. After several swings like this I stopped and showed him how to fix the problem. His swing was good but at the point of contact he was releasing his hands too early which was causing him to hit every ball straight into the ground.
Then I showed him how to make the adjustment. It took about 2 minutes but when we were done he proceeded to hit about 20 of the best balls I had ever seen him hit. Now the ground balls turned into line drives and maybe even home runs.
Sometimes it is just a small adjustment at the point of contact that can make all the difference in your results. In life we can have physical points of contact where the spiritual and the physical come together so that grace and faith are released bringing results. In the Bible you will see various points of contact which were physical things that people did or touched that allowed them to release their faith. A point of contact can be the bridge that allows grace to flow effortlessly out of you and bring supernatural results.
Here are some Biblical examples…
The woman with the issue of blood said that if she just touched the fringe of Jesus clothes that she would be healed. The fringe of his garment was the point of contact.
Moses raising his staff when the Red Sea was parted was his point of contact.
Peter’s shadow healed people - his shadow was the point of contact.
The disciples healed people with handkerchiefs. These were a point of contact.
If you are struggling in an area it may be good to establish a point of contact. Here are some ways to do this…
Anything that bridges the spiritual and physical can be used as a point of contact. This could be a physical thing you do, a time you do something, something you touch or contact, or even a routine you do.
Here are some practical examples...
If you are struggling with debt then every time you pay for something using either cash or your debit card can be a point of contact that allows you to release your faith rather than going further into debt.
Going for a walk with God every day when it seems like you have other things to do is a point of contact, releasing your faith that you will go faster with God’s help.
The Daily Mobility Routines and Stretching routines are a point of contact for me because I know when I do them I feel better.
Using Touchpoints on tight or sore spots on your body is a point of contact to release your faith.
Creates a Bridge
Anything that creates a bridge allowing you to release your faith can be a point of contact. There must be a bridge for grace and faith to flow across in order to bring results into your life.
Here is how to establish your point of contact...
Step 1: Make a Decision
In the case of the woman with the issue of blood she made a firm decision that if she touched Jesus she would be healed. You cannot be double minded with your point of contact. You must make a firm decision in your mind.
Step 2: Set a Time and Place
The Bible says that NOW is the time of salvation and Hebrews 11 says NOW faith is. Faith is in the now and in the present moment. Your point of contact can occur anytime you choose after you have made a firm decision. In the baseball hitting example for contact to occur the swing needs to be on time. If the swing was too early or too late the batter would miss the ball. Timing is critical for a successful point of contact. Too often we put results out into the future. Now is the time to establish your point of contact.
Think of your point of contact as a divine appointment where God’s power is released. If we were going to schedule an appointment we need to agree on the time and the place.
Location is another critical key for the point of contact. In baseball we would teach hitters to be looking for an exact location of the pitch they want to hit. When they narrow down their location power always increases because all of the force of the swing is directed right to the point of contact. The hitter must be on time and know the exact location of where they want to make contact.
You are in control of the timing, because God said NOW is the right time. You are also in control of the place of where your point of contact will be. It could be a physical place or something that you touch. When coaching hitters each hitter needed to know themselves and pick the exact location where they knew they could best drive the ball. God has you set the time and the location of contact. For example, the woman with the issue of blood said” if I just touch his clothes.” If the coach told the hitter what location to choose then the hitter might not have faith in that particular location. But when the hitter chooses the location he chooses the area where he knows he can best release his power. In the same way you pick the point of contact where you can best release your faith. If you are not sure on this you can also pray and ask God for the location/point of contact.
Step 3: Create a Memorial - Create a Memory
As I was learning about this idea of the point of contact I found that years ago Oral Roberts wrote a book called How to Find Your Point of Contact With God. One of the concepts he taught is that a point of contact creates a memorial. What is a memorial? It is a memory. When you have a strong memory of the time and place that something occurred you are likely to remember it. As an example, if a financial transaction occurred and the time, date, and location of the transaction were recorded, then if a problem were to ever arise you would have proof of the transaction. You need a memory, because if God were to heal your body and you knew the time and place if issues were to arise again you could say to yourself at 8:15am on February the 2nd I was healed and that memory can sustain you and help you to hold onto your health.
Memory happens in the realm of the imagination, which is the table turner for your mind and emotions. A strong point of contact that creates a memory or memorial can be the thing that not only creates supernatural results but it can also reprogram your heart so that those memories arise if you ever need them again.
A Person
A point of contact can also be a person. Many businesses will hire people to be the point of contact for their clients. This is the person the client goes to if they need something. The point of contact is the bridge between the client and the business making sure the client has what they need. God is looking for people who can be a point of contact for him, to release his power to others. A point of contact is a bridge, coordinator, and distributor, making sure the clients have what they need. God is looking for these people.
