The Rich and the Kingdom of Heaven

Listen to the Audio

In Matthew 19:23-26 Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”

26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Finances present a critical point that we all must get right...Is our trust, hope, and security in money or in God. We can't serve God and money, we have to pick one. This test of finances is going to get tested on a regular basis to see whether we value God and people more than money or stuff. I don't believe God has a problem with us having money, but he wants to be the source of it, and for our trust to be in him rather than the money.

When we make ourselves the source of our financial success it often leads to wronging people because we have to take care of ourselves. Lately we have been talking about installing filters at the top of our journal every night. These filters serve as standards that we can navigate our day by, but these standards require a commitment to walk them out. For example, a standard for finances might look something like this...

Seek first the kingdom of heaven by valuing relationships over money, and by stewarding well all God has entrusted to me.

This standard can help us navigate through the day when we are faced with decisions.

In today's communion we are thanking God that nothing is impossible with him. And we are asking for wisdom and understanding for how to apply these scriptures on finances into our lives the right way.

Today's Workout/Health Tip

I view health and time not as two separate areas of life, but as one. Everything we do in our time impacts our health. One of the best ways to improve health is to stop being rushed all day. Being frantic, rushed, and out of control steals time and our peace. And a lack of peace is not good for health. Slowing down and staying in control is one of the best things we can do for health. Be quick, but don't hurry!

I am praying for you.
