When I had my personal training gym, I used to always tell my trainers... A lot of people workout, but very few people train.
I would have to constantly remind my trainers of this whenever they had new clients, because new clients would often come in talking about how much they worked out, but usually when it came time to train, they were not prepared.
Training is different. It means being committed and showing up with a plan or purpose to get better. It means being disciplined, sticking with the plan, and having progressions in place.
Lately I feel like these words keep coming up to me... It's time to train.
While thinking about this I was reminded of 1 Timothy 4:8 which says, "Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
Training our physical bodies is good, but training for godliness is much better.
This is going to mean taking a different approach for most of us and that can seem unpleasant. But Hebrews 12:11 says... For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude our Heavenly Father is faithful to train his children. And we are asking him to help us understand how to train the right way and to help us train to be godly.
Today's Health/Fitness Tip
We can practice training in our workouts. This means being committed to it, showing up with a plan and purpose for the day, keeping records of our progress, and making steady progress over time.
I am praying for you.
