Tossed About by the Waves

Listen to the Audio

In yesterday's communion we said that the way or path is narrow, meaning it is easy to get knocked off track. And one of the ways we get off track is we get lured or tempted into quick fixes, fads, and trying to look for short cuts rather than being steadfast and consistent. Here are some scriptures on the importance of not being tossed about by the waves.

Ephesians 4:13-16 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

James 1:5-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

In today's communion we are asking for God's help to be single minded, steadfast, and consistent so that we grow into the maturity.

Today's Workout/Health Tip

Today's verses have practical implications for our health and fitness. In my years of training clients in the gym I saw many people who were tossed about by the waves, in fact I was one of them for a long time. I constantly bounced around from one diet or workout to the next. When we do this and stray from the simple basics it never leads to long term progress. All of these things seem like they are working in the short term because they usually produce a quick result, but they leave us worse off in the long term. I have learned it is better to stick with the basics and be consistent.

I am praying for you.

Daniel
