Turn the Battle at the Gate

Last night in the Miracle Year Class we got into a discussion about turning the battle at the gate. In Genesis 22:17 there is a promise that Abraham's offspring ( which is us) would possess the gate of their enemies. 

Then in Isaiah 28:6 God says he will give strength to those who turn the battle at the gate. 

In ancient times the gate of a city was the place of control and economic activity. Kings would also sit on their thrones at the gate of the city. 

So, what is this gate and what does this have to do with us? 

I believe the imagination is the gate to our lives because it is where Satan tries to attack and influence our choices. It is where he tries to get us into fear, worry, and doubt so that we try to do things in our own strength rather than resting in God’s grace. 

In our imaginations is where we play out worst case scenarios and envision things going wrong. This is where we must turn the battle, so that grace flows. 

The best way I have found to turn the battle at the gate is with communion.

If my imagination starts spinning in the wrong direction I take communion and stir the image of Jesus bearing it all on the cross and God now working continually for our good. 

Communion turns the battle at the gate and can help to reprogram our minds, emotions, and imaginations.
