Here is today's communion meditation.
Yesterday my kids were swimming in a circular above ground pool with some friends and they had the idea to create a whirlpool, so they all started running together in the same direction. Eventually it created a strong current spinning around the pool and they could float on their backs around the pool or swim easily with the current.
But then I told them to get the whirlpool turned around and spinning in the other direction. When they tried to stop the whirlpool they attempted to run in the other direction but it looked like they were going in slow motion. The current was still trying to propel them in the other direction. After a lot of struggle they finally got the current stopped and began to turn it around.
Sometimes in our lives through repetition we build some currents in our lives that are trying to carry us in the wrong direction and it can feel very hard and almost impossible to turn things around. But it is important to remember that nothing is impossible for God and it is easy for him to turn things around. When thinking of currents it reminds me of Day 5 of creation when God created the fish and the birds. The fish swim with water currents and the birds fly with the air currents. Both water and wind currents are very powerful and they can be easily converted to electrical currents and power.
After thinking about the whirlpool yesterday was I scribing a passage from Exodus about the 10 plagues of Egypt. In chapter 10 is the plague of locusts and God makes an east wind blow across the land all day bringing in the locusts. But then Pharaoh asks Moses to pray to remove the locusts. After Moses prayed it says in Exodus 10:19 the Lord turned the wind to a very strong west wind that removed all of the locusts. God easily turned the wind from east to west.
As we take communion today let it be a reminder that God loves us and wants to help us get some currents turned around in our lives. Nothing is impossible for him.
I am praying for you.
