Here is today's communion meditation
The other day my kids and I were getting out of the car and entering the house. As we were about to enter into the house one of my daughters stopped right in the middle of the doorway for some reason. As she stood there everybody else was waiting behind her. As this was happening I began to think about how Jesus says he is the door.
There are two main lessons about waiting in the doorway we can take away from this.
Proverbs 8:34 says... Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
Waiting in the doorway can mean seeking after God and waiting for his leading in our lives before we enter into things. This means being humble, teachable, and consistent. In life we often need solutions to problems but the solutions we come up with on our own usually lead to side effects. You may solve one problem but it just leads to another. As we wait daily at God's door he can lead us to "Beautiful Solutions."
A Beautiful Solution comes from God and it solves your problem but instead of side effects leading to more problems it creates a ripple effect for good across every area of life and sets you free. God is the source of beauty and these solutions can't be forced. They come from waiting at God's doorway, being ready and prepared, and trusting that God will open the door at the perfect time. Think of the parable of the 10 virgins. Five of them were wise and prepared for when the door opened. They had their oil(anointing) ready.
So we are to wait daily in the doorway but when the door opens we must go through. Open doorways aren't meant to stand in. When my daughter was waiting in the doorway she was delaying other people. When God opens doors we need to go through, and be prepared to do some work on the other side. We are not saved by our works, but once we are saved we have some good works to walk in. Our goal is to make other people great and it is going to take some work. Titus 2:14 says Jesus redeemed us to purify a people who are zealous(eager) for good works.
So the message of waiting in the doorway is this... Listen for God daily and wait in his doorway. Be ready and prepared for when the doors open. Trust that at the perfect time he will open doors to beautiful solutions in your life. When the doors open get moving quickly and be ready to do some work. Also, remember that whatever work is on the other side God has anointed you to do, the wise virgins had their oil ready to go.
As we take communion today let it be a reminder that these beautiful solutions all come because of the grace given to us in Christ.
I am praying for you.
