Walk Before Me

Here is today's communion meditation.

Our message in June is... Walking in God's Best Today.

The other day we talked about the Call of Abraham and how God told Abraham "Go," which can be translated in Hebrew as go, walk, flow, follow, or continue.

And we get the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the faith of Abraham.

Genesis 17:1-2 says, "When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty. Walk before Me and be blameless. 2 I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.

In 1 Kings 9:4-5 God told Solomon something very similar, "As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever."

These verses say almost the same exact thing and they both came after Abraham and Solomon had been walking with God for a number of years.

Let's break down these verses a little...

What does it mean to walk before God and what is the difference between walking with versus walking before God? The word "before," in Hebrew means God's face.

While researching this a couple of analogies came up. One was a military or political parade with people marching before the king and putting on a show for him. This made me think of teaching my kids to ride a bike. It starts with me walking or running along with them. But eventually we change to them riding on their own and me watching. I can sit down and watch as they show me what they can do... They can ride before me.

The other concept that came up was running toward the father, running toward his face. Picture a kid performing and doing well before their father, and then running to celebrate with their father.

The word for blameless can be translated as "complete, whole, innocent, and perfect."

The other part of these verses is that in both scriptures God says he will establish the people after they walk before him.

In today's communion we are asking God to help us and teach us to walk before him the way he desires, so that he can establish us.

Today's Health and Fitness Tip

Make sure to stir yourself up every day. Body transformations take a little time, which means we must stay encouraged consistently.

I am praying for you.
