What Do You Call It?

Listen to the Podcast

Lately we have been talking about calling on the Lord. And this year we have also talked a lot about filling up the basket of praise. Something I feel like God has been showing me is a progression for how we fill up the basket of praise.

I think it starts with calling on the name of the Lord. He is love, light, our healer, our provider, more than enough, the God of all hope, the God of all peace, the God of all grace, and so much more. When we have a problem, we can start calling on the name of the Lord that aligns with whatever we are facing and praising him for who he is. For example, if we need help in our health, we can call upon the God who heals us. If we need help financially, we can call upon our provider who is more than enough. if we need help with a bad habit, we can call upon God who is our righteousness and the one who makes us holy.

Then we can start filling up the basket of praise for God's promises to us in Christ. For whatever problem we are facing there is a promise, and we can start calling upon God for His promises and praising him for them.

After we have called upon and praised God for who He is and what he's promised us then I think there is an important step we must take, which is calling things that are not as though they were. What are you going to call your situation?

God gave us an example of this in the Bible with Abraham and the promised child. God promised Abraham that he was going to have a son, but for 24 years nothing happened. Then God changed Abram's name to Abraham, which means the father of many nations. Think about this for a moment... The guy who had no children had to go around calling himself the father of many nations.

Was Abraham lying? No, he began to get into agreement with what God had said and the promised child was born in less than a year.

We have probably all learned that talking about the problem constantly, venting, and complaining doesn't help anything, in fact it usually makes things worse. Let's try a different approach and learn to imitate what God did with Abraham. It was God who began to call him the father of many nations, even when he had no children.

In today's communion we are asking God to teach us about what we call things and how to get our words into agreement with his.

Today's Health and Fitness Tip

Working with clients in the gym for years, I have seen this principle working in people's health. It's pretty common to hear people say things like they can never make progress, they can't do certain things, etc. They put labels on themselves that are usually not true.

I am praying for you.
