The Point of Contact
The other day I was thinking about what is often called the point of contact. While thinking about this my kids had left a book on the floor by Oral Roberts called How to Find your Point of Contact with God.
Points of contact are physical things that we do or say that help us release all that God put within us out into the world. As an example, there was a time when I was piling up debt on a credit card because I was fearful of running out of money. I began to turn every transaction into a point of trust by paying with a debit card or cash, trusting that God would supply in the future as I needed it. By doing this his grace began to turn my finances around.
Points of contact also create a memory, because they create a physical marker that we can remember and look back to if our faith is ever wavering. One of the biggest keys to creating a successful point of contact is becoming more present, because presence is the grace table turner that helps all that God put within us to flow.
I consider communion to be the most important point of contact there is. It gives us something physical to do that helps us bring the sacrifice of Jesus into the present moment and make his sacrifice active and relevant in the present moment. Communion is a way to release our faith and remember that God is with us and that all things are possible with him. This takes the pressure off of us and helps us rest and trust in him.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude for this concept of the point of contact. And we are asking God to help us understand the point of contact and to function in it the way God intended from this point on in our lives.
Today's Health/Fitness Tip
Physical exercise is a great way to practice the point of contact. Every workout and every rep can either be done with the pressure on us or we can learn to create a bridge of trust that allows God to do the work through us. One of the biggest keys to this is learning to be more present. As we get more present and aware of God's presence it helps us release our faith into our exercise, which allows his grace to flow. This is one of the best ways to practice the point of contact.
I am praying for you.
