Perfect Love

Episode #48

1 John 4:16-18 says, "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

The other day I was in a discipline situation with one of my kids. She knew it was discipline time and so she was scared of me and was trying to hide. When I saw this happening, I knew I needed to make a change and approach the situation with gentleness because perfect love drives out fear, fear having to do with punishment.

Taking a different approach to the discipline turned it into a great time of connection, and a noticeable change in her.

God wants us to run to him instead of away from him, when we miss it, and it is perfect love that drives out fear. I have learned that it should also be the same with our children. We should want them to run to us rather than away from us when they miss it. And this requires a different approach.

Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God is love, and in this world, we are like Jesus. And we are asking God for help to walk in his perfect love from this point on in our lives.

Today's Health/Fitness Tip

In fitness there are two thresholds that I think of. The first threshold is the amount of exercise needed to produce results. Which is usually showing up with presence and doing what you know to do, but then there is another threshold that we don't want to cross, this threshold is where we have done too much, and we are into over exerting. The key is to be between these two thresholds. Enough exercise to produce results but not so much that it wears us out.

This principle applies to many other things as well. For example, in nutrition we want to have enough nutrients and food to provide energy, support health, and build/retain muscle, but not so much food that we store body fat.

I am praying for you.
