Man Does Not Live On Bread Alone
Today is the Day of Atonement, which is a reminder that Jesus is our High Priest. The Day of Atonement is like the major deadline for the year, and whenever a deadline approaches pressure increases, and time slows down.
Today is typically a total fast with no food or water until about 6pm. As I was thinking about this, I was reminded of the scripture Jesus uses during the 3 temptations in the wilderness, when he tells Satan that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Jesus was quoting from Deuteronomy 8 and here are verses 1-3 for context.
Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. 2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God's word sustains us. He sustains everything through the power of his word. If you are doing the fast today, roll the pressure over onto God, as a remembrance that he can sustain us.

In the Jewish culture they break the fast with bagels. Bagels are symbolic of the yearly cycle coming full circle.
I am praying for you.
