Unbelief and Doubt

Episode #154

Lately I have been thinking about the concept of unbelief and doubt vs belief and confidence.

I think of unbelief or belief as the conclusion we have come to in our heart. Sometimes we are indecisive about what we believe, and as long as we are indecisive nothing happens. But when we make a decision to either believe or disbelieve, things start happening really fast. God gives us the choice as to whether we will believe his promises or not. And we could be undecided, which is also not good.

One of our first steps is to examine God's promises and decide whether they are really true or not. This is something I learned from Billy Graham. There is a story told at the Billy Graham Museum about a time when Billy was undecided about whether some of the promises in the Bible are really true, because people were trying to talk him out of believing that they were true. But he took his Bible out in the backyard, put in on a tree stump, and decided that everything in the book was true. He said that was the day that his life and ministry truly changed.

Once we have belief in place, then we must deal with doubt, because circumstances will arise that can cause us to doubt. I think the way we deal with doubt is to keep magnifying God, who he is and what he has promised us until we get to a place of confidence in his word.

Today's communion is a time of gratitude for God's promises in Christ. And we are asking him to help us remove any unbelief and doubt that shouldn't be there, and to replace it with belief and confidence in him.

Today's Health and Fitness Tip

One of the best places for us to practice belief and confidence is in our health and fitness. Start finding what God has promised us about health and keep putting those scriptures in our eyes, ears, and mouth.

I am praying for you.

Daniel
