Solomon's Prayer
Here is today's communion meditation.
In 2 Chronicles chapter 1 is the story of God appearing to Solomon and telling him to ask for whatever he wants. We've been given the same proposition in Christ. Jesus said that if we abide in him, we can ask for whatever we want in his name. But how do we know what to ask for?
For a while now we have talked about asking God to help us do what's right and best in his eyes, because we trust that God will take care of is if we are doing that. But I think there are some additional things we can learn from looking at what Solomon prayed for. Here is what it says in 2 Chronicles 1:7-10:
That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
Solomon prayed for a couple of specific things... Number one was that God's promise to David would be established or confirmed. This promise was for Solomon's family. We also have great and precious promises in Christ, and we can ask God to establish those promises in our lives.
Then Solomon asked for wisdom and understanding on how to do what God called him to do. God made him the king, but he didn't know how to be king, so he asked God to help him be king in a way that was pleasing to God and served the people.
We can do the same, asking God to help us walk out our purpose in a way that is pleasing to God and that serves the people.
In today's communion we are asking God to establish his promises in Christ in our lives, especially those for our family, and we are asking God to give us wisdom and understanding for what he called us to do.

I am praying for you.
