Casting Lots
Here is today's communion meditation.
The other day Bible verses on "casting lots," kept standing out to me, so I was looking up what the words meant in Hebrew. One of the translations is a pebble or stone.
Casting lots was like rolling dice, drawing straws, or a flipping a coin to make a choice. It was a random unbiased way to generate a decision from God.
And while I was looking up the definitions of the word, my daughter asked my wife about an object that was on a shelf nearby, and it just so happened to be a prayer dice, that my wife's mother had given her. The dice had different Bible verses written on each side.
Casting lots is something that is all throughout the Old Testament and even seen in the gospels and the book of Acts.
Casting lots was how the priests were chosen to go on duty in the temple.
Casting lots was how the Israelites were given their inheritance land.
Casting lots was how the scapegoat was chosen on the Day of Atonement.
Casting lots was how the soldiers divided the clothes of Jesus while he was on the cross.
Casting lots was how the disciples chose who would replace Judas.
Proverbs 18:18 says, "Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart."
But after the Holy Spirit comes, I don't think we see any more examples of casting lots. We have the Holy Spirit to guide our decision making now.
Our message for November is "The Best Choice."
It is during November that God often starts shifting things around as he transitions us to the next level, and during this time we have to make choices for which way we will go when God opens doors.
In today's communion we are asking God to teach us how to make decisions the way he desires so that we choose His best.
Today's Health and Fitness Tip
Make sure to keep going for daily walks with God. This will help your decision making.
I am praying for you.
