A few days ago was Pentecost ... A reminder we've been given the gift of the Holy Spirit.
And yesterday we looked at Acts 4:31 which says, "And when the disciples had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
This verse reminded me of Luke 6:38 where Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
The phrase shaken together comes from when merchants would pour grain into someone's garment. They would shake the garment with the grain to create more room to fill the garment with even more grain.
When the disciples prayed, God shook the place so that there was more space he could fill in them with Holy Spirit.
Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God fills every available space within us with the Holy Spirit, and that when we give it is given back to us... A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.
Today's Health and Fitness Tip
Filling the available space has to do with capacity, which is an important concept in workouts. Increasing the capacity to do more work is one of the biggest keys to fitness. And one of the best ways to do this is with low intensity exercises that don't tire you out. This low intensity work builds the capacity of the body.
I am praying for you.
