The Cup in the Hand of the Lord

Uncategorized Jan 13, 2024

Listen to the Podcast

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

Recently I've come across some verses about the cup in the hand of the Lord. There are several scriptures that refer to the cup that is in God's hand.

Psalm 75:8 says, "For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs."

The cup in God's hand usually refers to the cup of his wrath. But when before Jesus went to the cross he prayed asking God "to let the cup pass from him."

He was willing to have the cup of God's wrath poured onto him so that we can have the cup of blessing and of participation in the New Covenant.

Today's communion is a time of gratitude that through the obedience of Jesus we are righteous, and that we can now have the cup of the New Covenant.

Boundaries & Authority

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

The other day I felt like God showed me that there is a connection between boundaries and authority. Think of a police man, governor, or president, they have authority within their jurisdiction or borders but once they are outside of their boundaries, they lose their authority.

We all need boundaries in every area of our lives and when we either don't have well defined boundaries or we cross them we lose our authority and power.

As an example, a boundary in our finances could be to set aside a certain amount of money every time we get paid. When we don't stay within that boundary, we can lose authority/power over our finances.

While seeking the Lord about this the fall of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 came to mind.

When they crossed the boundary that God had set for them, they lost their authority and gave it to Satan.

But the good news is that Jesus got all the authority back.

Pleasant Boundaries

Listen to the Podcast

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

I think one of the most important areas of our walk with God is boundaries. Having boundaries in our spiritual life, purpose, health, family, finances, time, and especially our priorities.

Think of creating boundaries in your life as deciding on the main principles that you will operate by and making the commitment in your heart to them.

Boundaries can actually create freedom, because they keep us from having to make so many decisions. We can have freedom within boundaries.

But boundaries will be tested, and they must be defended.

Psalm 16:6 says, "The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places."

Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God has given us pleasant boundaries in Christ, and we are asking him to help us set these boundaries and keep them.

What do we dread?

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

Lately I've been thinking about a verse in Isaiah 8:12-13.

“Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread."

In my book "Make Today a Masterpiece," I discuss the importance of paying attention to the things we are dreading, because it can give us clues to when our focus is off. In many cases when we are dreading something in the day it's usually because we forgot that the Master is with us, He loves us, and nothing is impossible for him.

But this verse says, God is to be the one we dread. The Hebrew word for dread can mean tremble or stand in awe of.

When we dread something, it usually causes us to procrastinate because we stand in awe of the problem. But we can change our focus to standing in awe of...

A Person of Rest

Listen to the Podcast

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

This year our message for 2024 is "The Great Reset."

And I feel one thing to be resetting is a culture of rest. God has been teaching me a lot lately about the importance of having a rhythm of rest.

The promised land in the Bible is described as "God's rest."

While thinking about this 1 Chronicles 22:9 came to mind which where God speaks to David about his son Solomon.

God tells David, "But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side."

I think there is a progression in this verse. First, Solomon was a man of rest, and then God gave him rest on every side.

Solomon was a man of rest first.

In today's communion we are asking God to help us be people of rest the way he desires.

Restored to Joy

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

Psalm 51:12 says, "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me."

The word salvation in the original Hebrew is Yeshua, which is the name for Jesus. Restore me to the joy of Jesus.

The originial Hebrew also reads something like, "And generously give me of your spirit to support and uphold me."

2023 was a very demanding year for me personally, and a mistake that I made was not really taking any time off during the year.

This led to some burn out, but also to some staleness in my relationship with the Lord. I was still seeking God but not with the joy I had when I first started walking with him.

Over the last couple of weeks I have taken some time off and it's amazing what some rest can do to restore the joy of Jesus in our lives.

In today's communion we are asking God to restore the joy of Jesus in our lives and to generously give us of his spirit so that...

God Setting Things Right

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

This year in 2024 our message is "The Great Reset."

While thinking about his I came across Romans 3:21 MSG. It says, "But in our time something new has been added. What Moses and the prophets witnessed to all those years has happened. The God-setting-things-right that we read about has become Jesus-setting-things-right for us.

Today's communion is a time of gratitude that God has set things right for us. He's given us a great reset, and we are asking him to help us walk in the resetting he has provided.

Kind and Firm

Listen to the Podcast

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

Romans 2:4 MSG says, "God is kind, but he's not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change."

The combination of kindness and firmness can lead to a transformed life.

There are some people that are kind but not firm and others who are firm but not kind. I think walking in the balance of kindness and firmness is something we learn from God,

Todays communion is a time of gratitude that God is kind and firm, and we are asking Him to help us be more like him by being both kind and firm.

Today's Health and Fitness Tip

It takes kindness and firmness to get results in our health and fitness. Taking a kind and gentle approach that is mixed with discipline is needed.

I am praying for you.

Authority for Building Up

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

2 Corinthians 10:8 says, "So even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it."

Yesterday we talked about pulling down ideas and imaginations that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. We are to pull down these thoughts but we are to build up people.

In today's communion we are asking God to help us break free of any patterns of pulling others down, and to use the authority He's given us in Christ to build each other up.

Today's Health and Fitness Tip

The goal in the workout is to build up the body... not to tear it down. In workouts there is a point where you've done enough to make progress, and any more would only tear the body down. This is the sweet spot of the workout.

I am praying for you.

Pulling Down

Uncategorized Jan 04, 2024

Listen to the Podcast

Good morning!

Here is today's communion meditation.

Recently my kids had a curtain up in one of our doorways in the house. The curtain wasn't secured very welll, and if they would give it a small tug it would pull down and fall to the floor.

One day when the curtain fell it reminded me of 2 Corinthians 10:5 which says, "And we pull down reasonings and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and we take all minds prisoner to the obedience of The Messiah."

Some versions translate this as pull down or cast down ideas/imaginations/arguments and high things that exalt themselves against God. About this time I also came across verses in Numbers and Deuteronomy where God told the people to pull down and demolish, the high places of their enemies.

I think something God was showing me is that these imaginations or thoughts can be pulled down as easily as the curtain in our doorframe.

In today's communion we are asking God to help...
